India to Supply LNG to Sri Lanka's Power Plants, Says PM Modi

 India will supply Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Sri Lanka's power plants as part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, announced Prime Minister Narendra Modi following discussions with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake during his first foreign trip since assuming office in September. India will also focus on connecting the power grids of the two nations and laying a petroleum pipeline to enhance energy cooperation.

PM Modi highlighted India's continued support for Sri Lanka's development, including $5 billion in credit and grants. New initiatives include assistance for rehabilitating the Maho-Anuradhapura railway signalling system and Kankesanthurai Port, scholarships for Sri Lankan university students, and training for 1,500 civil servants over the next five years. Both leaders emphasized interconnected security interests, agreeing to finalize a defence cooperation agreement and collaborate on hydrography. India's involvement spans sectors like housing, renewable energy, agriculture, and infrastructure, reflecting its commitment to Sri Lanka's development priorities.
