Apple is reportedly planning to start
the manufacturing of iPods in India. The company is already manufacturing its iPhones
in the country, as a part of the localization drive. Apple currently
manufactures iPhones through its contract manufacturers in the country.
As per the reports, Apple is lobbying
for incentives under the PLI scheme from the government. The Government of
India announced incentives worth USD 6.7 billion to boost electronics manufacturing
in the country and position India as a global manufacturing hub. Apple already participated
in the scheme for incentives through its contract manufacturers like Foxconn,
Wistron and Pegatron under the mobile phones segment. Now the company is trying
to avail incentives for the manufacturing of iPod tablets in India.
With apple increasing its manufacturing
capabilities in India, the MSMEs in the country are expected to get better opportunities.
