Panasonic, the Japanese consumer electronics giant, is planning to double the air-conditioning business in India over the next three years to meet the growing domestic demand. In line with the vision of ‘Make In India’, Panasonic India aims to manufacture 90-100% of products to be sold in India.

“We are already exporting air conditioners and many other products from here. Now we are collaborating with component manufacturers, specifically for parts such as motors, compressors, and aluminium. You will see this happen in phases in three years’ time,” said Manish Sharma, President & CEO, Panasonic India & SA.   The company foresees a growth of 35% in sales in the first half of 2021.

Currently, the company has manufacturing facilities in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Jhajjar, Haryana. The company’s push for increasing domestic manufacturing is expected to provide better manufacturing opportunities for MSMEs as well. It creates an ecosystem for a lot of small players wherein they will have a vital role to play by supplying auxiliary parts.
